Community Midwives

A community midwife and her colleagues will see you in the surgery on a Tuesday morning as well as visiting you at home, whilst you should ideally see the same midwife each time this is outside our control. She will provide your antenatal care together with your GP.

The midwives are based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital – 01743 261000 ext 3868. If they are out there is an answer phone to allow you to leave a message and they will get back to you.

Community Nurses

Referrals are accepted from a wide variety of sources including GPs, hospitals, other health care professionals, social services, care agencies, families and patients themselves. They strictly only visit patients who are housebound although this could be due to either a permanent disability or a temporary incapacity i.e. due to an operation.

They offer skilled nursing care for a wide variety of needs including palliative care, chronic illness, post operative, assessment of continence and wound care. If you have a nursing need, are housebound and wish to contact the district nurses please telephone 01743 264090 between the hours of 08:30 and 15:30.

Health visitors

Our health visitors are experienced trained nurses with further specialist training in all aspects of child care and development in the under 5’s. Patients can contact our health visitors on 01743 452300 if they have any concerns about the health and wellbeing of the under 5’s.

They are also available to offer advice and help to the elderly. Baby clinics are held locally where you can take your baby to be weighed and discuss any worries; please refer to posters in surgery or ring 01743 452300 to find out where your nearest clinic is. You can now e-mail for advice on shrewsburyhvteam@nhs.net or text 07794 279902.
